Asus TUF Dash F15 Review 2021 : A BIG SURPRISE FROM Asus TUF Series

Asus TUF Dash F15 Review

Asus TUF Gaming Laptops series is one of those gaming laptops that gamers have been getting really interested in. One reason being, they are much cheaper, affordable and offer good performance for the price they come with.

Last year in 2020, one of the Asus TUF gaming laptops came up with the brand new RTX 2060 for just under $1000 which was remarkable. I think the Asus TUF guys are playing those Xiaomi phones type pricing strategies where they offer a lot of features for a very affordable price. Of course cutting corners on build quality and other areas.

However, in 2021, I am absolutely blown away by the Asus TUF Series, this time with the brand new Asus TUF Dash F15 2021. This time, they’ve not only managed to nail the pricing, as the laptop is just priced at $1099, which is just crazy, but they have been able to equip the laptop with the latest RTX Graphics card.

Yes, I am serious, the Asus TUF Dash F15 comes with the latest RTX 3060 GPU and the base RAM starts with 16GB which is just incredible. This is just the base model specs and you also get an Intel Core i7-11370H processor and 512 GB of SSD storage and a 144Hz display. All of these specs for only $1099 !, this is insane. Add an extra $200 to $300 more and you get 48GB of RAM, RTX 3070, 240Hz Display and more SSD storage.

I am seeing a lot of value here for the price point and you will not find any other gaming laptops giving such high value features for the price.

But what I am really grateful to Asus TUF series for is about the design and the build quality of the laptop.

Yes this time, they have absolutely made the Asus TUF Dash F15 look like no less than any other premium gaming laptops you will find on the market. It doesn’t look cheap at all.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Design

Although, Asus really buffed their specs for the TUF Dash F15, when I first just heard about the new laptop coming in 2021, I really doubted that they are definitely going to downgrade somethings, one of which I though was the design and build quality.

To my surprise, the TUF Dash F15 does not look cheap at all. In fact, it shares a similar design like the Asus Zephyrus G14 in its white form. It’s looks very premium and feels very premium.

The base is made of plastic and it feels to be pretty thick, however, when you actually hold the laptop from the base, it feels very strong.

The lid this time is made from metal and it makes the laptop feel very rigid and sturdy. Unlike the last years Asus TUF laptops which when you just look at it feels like they have been brought up from some kind of second hand computer market.

And although, we as gamers don’t really care about the design as long as the laptop’s performance is great and it runs all the games. However, sometimes, it’s just good to have a really nice looking laptop just to make us feel that the money we’ve spend was worth it.

The lid of the laptop is decorated with a big logo of Asus TUF logo symbol which looks great. It’s not like last year’s which honestly looked horrible. This years logo really compliments with the overall design of the laptop.

The laptop unfortunately doesn’t have any external lighting however, the laptop still looks great even without any external lighting. The white version specifically looks amazing.

The Asus TUF Dash F15 just weights around 4.4 pounds and the display comes with small thin bezels. Although, the bottom one is pretty thick. But we don’t get a webcam and a fingerprint reader. I think both of these features are basically useless for gamers. Unless, if gamers are going to use the laptop professionally, if it’s purely for gaming, these features are pretty much unnecessary.

The keyboard of course is oddly satisfying with it’s island style form factor and although gamers with only get the choice of having the colour of turquoise as the backlighting colour of the keyboard. If you don’t mind having no options for changing the colours of the keyboard, then there should no problem with the keyboard.

The touchpad on the other hand is still not that bad. It’s got great feedback, smooth and while it’s not the biggest touchpad, it still medium sized and it’s satisfying to click on it. You can also disable the clickable function from the Asus software “Armoury Crate control panel”.

Overall, yes, we are missing on many things regarding the design of the laptop. Like finger print reader, a webcam, no colour changing RGB backlit Keyboard and no RGB lighting all around the laptop. However, If you really think about it, these are some of the design features that 90% of time is rarely used by gamers. So, I think it’s not a big deal at all because at least we are not compensated with gaming performance.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Display

The Asus TUF Dash F15 this time comes with a 240Hz display which is at Full HD 1080p resolution and comes with adaptive sync technology to eliminate frame tearing.

If you get the base model, you only get 144Hz display. However, I think for most gamers 144Hz screen refresh rate is just more than enough for gaming. Because in most of the games, you will not be getting more than 100 fps frame rates so, having 240Hz refresh rate is still pointless.

However, if you are going to play competitive matches, and you play games like Counter-Strike GO, League of Legends or Dota 2 then by adding an extra few hundred dollars, you can get the 240Hz display and you can make the best use of those display. As in these games, you can possibly get frame rates over 200 fps.

Speaking about the quality of the display, the IPS panel looks great in any body’s eyes. There’s nothing that’s compensated here and the matte texture on the display surface makes it look amazing and non-reflective. The colour quality of the display is also great with 100 percent coverage of the sRGB gamut.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Ports

The Asus TUF Dash F15 comes with a fair amount of ports that are just more than enough for most of your gaming needs.

However, the placements of ports is rather just weird and not properly organised. As on the left side you have a power connector, eThernet port, a full-size HDMI 2.0b port, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, and a USB Type C port ending with a headphone jack.

On the right side, you just have an extra two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports.

The Thunderbolt 4/ USB-C port on the left is a great addition as you can also use the same port to charge your notebook.

On both the sides of the laptop, you have fans or cooling vents.

I think the ports placements and choices for Asus TUF Dash F15 is above average and it’s not like you need lots of ports but they could have included the Micro SD card slots.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Gaming Performance

The Asus TUF this time, has really taken performance seriously and kept it at the top priority over everything. This time, their TUF Dash F15 comes with some of the latest hardware choices that I think is a really wise move.

The CPU, Core i7-11375H Tiger Lake, quad-core, eight-thread is an odd choice for Asus but the Tiger Lake family of Intel Chips are some of the latest and newly built architecture built on a smaller 10nm processors.

With the base clock speed of 3.3GHz and a Turbo Boost speed of 5.0 Ghz, the laptop is definitely built for high performance and you will have no problem with multi-tasking. The Thermal Design Power is only 35 Watts which makes it possible for the laptop to run much much cooler. Moreover, it also comes with a different kind of integrated graphics called Iris Xe which much better than previous generation Intel HD graphics.

Speaking about RTX, yes honestly, it’s not the fastest RTX 3060, RTX 3070 machines here in the market. Definitely, there will be other companies like Razer Blade and MSI, who can pull better performance.

However, this does not mean that the RTX 3070 on the TUF Dash F15 is a second hand market one. It can definitely run serious high-end Title AAA games.

When we tested Metro Exodus on this machine, it ran at 59 fps at ultra settings which is not bad at all.

Considering the fact, that last year, Asus Zephyrus G14 was only able to get 38 fps at ultra settings with the RTX 2070 GPU.

While the Last year’s Razer Blade 15 was only able to pull 20 – 30 fps on Metro Exodus with the RTX 2080 GPU.

So, the RTX 3070 is certainly very powerful and when we turned on the Ray-Tracing mode, the frame rates only dropped to 48 fps.

Now let’s compete the Asus TUF Dash F15 with other real world high end gaming laptops.

Gaming LaptopsCPU/Memory RAMGPU/Storage
1. Asus TUF Dash F15Core-i7 -11375H/ 16 GBRTX 3070/ 1TB SSD
2. Razer Blade 15 Advanced EdtionCore-i7 – 10875H/16GBRTX 2080 SUPER/ 1TB SSD
3. Acer Predator Helios 300 (2020)Core-i7 -10750H/16GBRTX 2070/512 GB SSD
4. MSI Alpha 15AMD Ryzen 7 – 4800H/16 GBAMD RAEDON RX 5600X /512 GB SSD

The first test we ran on the TUF Dash F15 was PCMark 10 where TUF Dash F15 outscored all the big players of the gaming industry with a staggering score of 6218. While the Razer Blade 15 Advance and other gaming laptops all scored below 6000 points. With Acer Helios 300 scoring the lowest at 5000 points.

Next up was graphics and we ran the 3D Mark tests for TUF Dash F15. It was able to score about 35,586 points on the Sky Driver Test being just 2000 points below Lenovo and Razer Blade 15 which both scored 37,533 and 37,834 points respectively which is not a lot of difference at all. Surprisingly, Acer Helios Predator was able to score the highest with 40,595 points.

However, the TUF Dash F15 nailed the Fire Strike test leading with 17,392 points, while other laptops all got a score below 17,000. With Lenovo scoring the lowest at 14,245 points which is just a big shame. Considering the fact that it is at the same price point as the TUF Dash F15.

Playing Far Cry 5 at Ultra settings, the TUF Dash F15 was able to nail 85 fps compared to Razer Blade which scored 95 fps, just 10 fps ahead. While, again the Acer Helios 300 surprised us with a staggering 97 fps thereby leading all of them.

Playing Tomb Raider was a different story here and the TUF Dash F15 was able to score 102 fps which is not at all bad. While MSI and Lenovo got frame rates below 99 fps and Razer Blade scoring the highest with 112 fps. All of these scores were on Ultra settings.

Overall, for $1099, if you can playing high end games like Tomb Raider at Ultra settings and still get frame rates above 100 fps is already too good enough for a gaming laptop. Considering the fact that TUF Dash F15 comes with the latest 11th Gen Intel Core i7 Chip and a RTX 3070 GPU just means that here were are definitely seeing the performance difference.

With the TUF Dash F15, you will definitely be able to play most of the high end Title AAA games that come out in 2021 and 2022 for sure. And you will have no problems with performance either as the frame rates that we are seeing is already too good to be true for a $1099 dollars!.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Battery Life

This is where the Asus TUF Dash F15 gets a big hit. Now officially Asus advertise their Asus TUF Dash F15 claiming to get you over 16 hours of battery life.

While, in today’s standards, the Official MacBook Pro M1 is getting you around over 20 hours of battery life. And for a gaming laptop to get over 15 hours of battery is a joke.

When I actually tested the Asus TUF Dash F15, unfortunately, I was right as I only got around 7 hours and 45 minutes of battery life. That also when my laptop was on power saving mode and the screen brightness was only 50%.

Therefore, here it is concluded that there’s no way to get better battery life in a gaming laptop. It is almost like a dream come true to get over 10 to 15 hours of battery life in a gaming laptop.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Final thoughts

Regardless of how long the Asus TUF Dash F15, I think battery life will not be an issue at all because most of the time when we are playing games, our laptop has to be plugged in into the power.

However, if you are just running lightweight tasks like chrome, word and other apps, you can definitely expect to get over 7 to 8 hours of battery life here.

Speaking about is it worth buying the Asus TUF Dash F15 in 2021?, and the answer is definitely yes if you are looking for a budget friendly high performance gaming laptop. Because there are no laptops in the market that can deliver such high value performance features for the price that it comes with.

However, if you are looking for a much higher end gaming laptop and you wish to see what other companies can pull out with the latest RTX 3000 series graphics card, then it will be very wise to just wait. However, even if Razer blade, Acer and other gaming companies do come up with their new machines equipped with the latest RTX 3000 cards, they are definitely going to be pricey.

I think Asus here being one of the first companies to pull out a cheap RTX 3000 machine is just so that they get a head start for the year. And I think this is a very smart business move by Asus because they know that RTX 3000 series machines aren’t going to be cheap at all.

Therefore, being one of the first one to start the race is a great move by Asus!.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733QS Review – Gaming Power At Your Hands

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733QS Review

The year 2021 has been really interesting as not only did India get a vaccine for Coronavirus, which I am absolutely grateful to India, Solute to India and Jai Hind.

But in 2021, we saw the release of the latest RTX 3000 series graphics card. There is not doubt the RTX 3000 series is definitely going to change the gaming industry.

This time ASUS equipped it with it’s latest ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733QS and as the name of the laptop itself is big, the gaming laptop itself is big too. Performance wise, size wise and features wise, this laptop is by far one of the best and most powerful gaming laptops ASUS has ever released.

I am also extremely excited to review this ultimate gaming laptop and share it’s features with you guys.

So, without further ado, let dive right into the review of the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2021).

ASUS ROG STRIX Series design asthetics has always been focused heavily on RGB lighting, complementing to that sleek gamer type design patterns that makes you feel that you own a high performance gaming laptop.

Image –

The 2021 version of ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 17 shares a similar design trend with the first prominent thing to notice is the RGB light strip that’s around the bottom part of the laptop.

Honestly, this RGB design choice looks pretty cool and it makes it feel as though your laptop is levitating while you put your lights off. Regardless of people’s opinion of what they think of the design, I think it definitely looks pretty awesome. You can also control the lighting with the Aura Creator App.

The lid of course is made of metal matte finish and one of the cool things about the laptop is that there are hidden Easter eggs found all over the lid of the laptop. That’s pretty interesting and don’t worry I will not spoil the spoilers.

The bottom part however is made of plastic however, it is definitely very vulnerable to smudges and finger prints as the layer is coated with some kind of soft material that makes it look premium yet prone to touches.

While, speaking about the overall body construction, the laptop is now 10% more lighter and much smaller than the previous generation. This means, it is much lighter and the bezels around the screen is also much thinner.

The overall design of the laptop is pretty neat and tidy. It looks more organised and properly build but it’s still not perfect. The plastic exterior underneath the laptop still attracts a lot of finger prints while, it’s not really a big issue though.

The LED underneath the laptop however, may not be liked by some of the gamers as it really gets to your eyes when the lights are turned off.

Lastly, there are no fingerprint readers, SD card slot or a webcam on the laptop.

The keyboard on this laptop is however, a very different story. The reason being it’s not bad at all and in fact the optical mechanical switches are great to have. They give you a good response feedback and great to type on.

But the Numpad is an issue here because there are no dedicated keys for home, end, PgUp, PgDn, and Insert. They are included but they are tied with other keys. Regardless, of the Numpad, the keyboard has a full set of main keys, and the have the perfect size and placements.

Therefore, overall, the keyboard is extremely comfortable to use. Although, the mechanical keyboard does make some clicks sounds and for some it can be a thing to get used to.

The Trackpad on the other Hand is really unique here. It’s actually made of glass and it’s size has been increased. But when you click on the trackpad, it does make some “tuk” sound.

When it comes to accuracy, it’s pretty accurate, smooth and fast. It’s precise and not at all hangy.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G733 comes with three options for screen display.

  • Full HD 1080p Display, 300+ brightness and 300 Hz Screen Refresh Rate.
  • Full HD 1080p Display, 300+ brightness and 360 Hz Screen Refresh Rate.
  • Quad HD Display, 300+ brightness and 165 Hz Screen Refresh Rate.

The Quad HD display here looks the best with very sharp display, much much richer colors and it’s a great driver for video and photo editing. Even when you play several games, it just looks amazing on the QHD display. The display comes with 165Hz of screen refresh rate which I think is more than enough for most games, considering the fact that the today’s standards for screen refresh rates are 144Hz.

While the. FHD displays also look great. They do come with a screen refresh rate of 300HZ and 36Hz which is a great here. There is no doubt, the screen looks sharp and with upto 100% sRGB colors and 300+ nits of screen brightness.

I played the Cyber Punk 2077 which honestly was one of the buggiest Title AAA games I’ve ever player, however the graphics of the game were looking extremely stunning on this display. I could clearly see the contrasting colours and the streets of the city.

With 300hz screen refresh rate, you can easily get some of the most smoothest buttery gameplays and it’s just a different level of gaming experience on a 300hz panel.

You can make use of the 300hz panel by playing games like CS:GO and Dota 2 where normally you get fps above 300fps.

The Unique thing about the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G733 is that it comes with a AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU which just means better CPU performance for gaming.

As they say AMD is just much better for gaming and yes, it’s actually true, we have being seeing AMD beat Intel for several years.

The Scar 17 G733 comes with AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX 8 cores and 16 threads CPU clocking upto 4.6 Ghz with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage.

Speaking about graphics, it’s equipped with the latest and the best RTX 3080 GPU with 16 GB of video RAM and it’s also got an integrated graphics card AMD Vega iGPU. The GPU runs at 115W and It supports dynamic boost that allows you to accelerate the power upto 130W. Which just means more graphics power and much more higher gaming frame rates.

With Asus’s new Armoury Crate software, you can definitely control the amount of power you want from the CPU and GPU.

Asus provides you with four power profiles with the new Scar 17 G733

Silent – where fan noise is low but CPU and GPU power also gets limited.

Performance – where CPU and GPU power is balanced while GPU will still run at 115W. Great for work tasks and running graphics heavy applications. However, not recommended for gaming .

Turbo – where CPU runs at higher clocks speed, GPU gets overclocked (115 to 130W). This is the recommended option you’d want to use for gaming.

Manual – where you can customise how much power you’d want from CPU and GPU and also tweak the fan profiles and temperature limits.

One thing to note here is that Turbo and Manual modes are only available when you are plugged into power. While silent modes are great for Netflix binge watching and YouTube breaks.

If you are getting into serious gaming, Turbo is where you can get the best of the performance from the laptop.

Next we ran a set of graphics, games and performance tests to see what kind of scores we get.

3DMark – Fire Strike: 25,090

3DMark – Time Spy: 11,119

Uniengine Superposition – 1080p Extreme: 7406

Handbrake 1.3 (4K to 1080p encoding ): 46 fps

GeekBench 5: 8290

PCMark 10: 7305

The scores here are pretty higher than the previous generation Scar 17 2020 version yet we cannot expect to b mind blown. The 2021 model ends up being 10 – 20 % faster in single core and CPU loads. While the GPU gets a 15% boost in performance.

Not a big difference we are seeing here but the RTX 3080 GPU is definitely a plus point here. Because you won’t find any drops in frame rates while you play RTX games when Ray Tracing is on.

Next I tested a bunch of games on different models of Scar 17 G733 and here’s the kind of frame rates you can expect from this machine.

AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX
RTX 3080
FHD TurboFHD PerformanceQHD TurboRTX ON FHD Turbo
Battlefield V – Ultra131 fps122 fps119 fps93 fps
Cyberpunk 2077 – Ultra 69 fps66 fps49fps59 fps
Shadow of Tomb Raider111 fps108 fps98 fps82 fps
Far Cry 5 – Ultra113 fps110 fps106 fps
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt128 fps121 fps98 fps
Rise of Tomb Raider – Ultra138 fps129 fps118 fps
Metro ExodusUltra77 fps72 fps62 fps
Dota 2 – Max settings 111 fps112 fps112 fps

From these results, we can clearly see that the frame rates are not that bad. We are seeing a 10% increase in the frame rates compared to the previous Scar 17 that came with RTX 2080.

Therefore, from these tests, we can conclude that the 2021 Scar 17 G733 is about 10 – 20% faster than the previous model. We get 15 -20% better RTX performance and there is no about, you can play all kinds of games on this laptop.

This year, we are seeing some slight changes with the thermos for this gaming laptop. We are seeing smaller fans, but a new design of the fan blades that is supposed to reduce resonance and increase the airflow.

They have also included a higher quality VRM, with a liquid metal on the AMD CPU. With all of these additions, we are hoping to see lower temperatures and silent fan speed noise.

However, the temperatures on this laptop still hangs around 85 to 90 degrees Celsius which is still pretty high. Gaming at such temperatures, I am not a big fan of when especially considering the laptop for long term usage.

However, during regular uses, the gaming laptop hangs around temperatures between 30 to 60 degree Celsius.

There is also a mode where your fans complete switches off when you are in silent mode. This make the noise from the laptop completely 0db which I think is a great feature to have.

While you are normally playing games, whether on turbo mode or performance mode, you can expect to get fan noises between 38 dB to 45 dB.

That isn’t very loud and you really don’t need to get headphones to cancel out the fan noises. You can very much enjoy your games and the game sounds itself will cancel all of the extra noise.

Speaking about ports, you get a fair amount of ports from the Asus Scar 17 G733.

There are 3 USB A 3.2 ports, 1 USB-C gen2 port that can also be used for video and charging. An HDMI 2.0b, headphone/mic jack and a LAN port.

The majority of the important ports are placed at the back portion of the laptop while on the left side, you have 2 USB A ports with a headphone/mic jack.

The Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 is equipped with a 90Wh battery and you can expect to get around 10 hours plus of battery life when you are normally using the laptop.

Meaning when you are watching videos on YouTube, Netflix, and regular usage of web browsers and other light apps.

However, when you are actually gaming, the laptop uses at least 80W and with that, you can only expect to get around 1 hour + of battery life.

The Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 is no doubt one of the most powerful gaming laptop you can get on the market. It is definitely ranked at the top 10 list of the most powerful gaming laptops for 2021.

Especially, having that AMD Ryzen 9 CPU just means that this laptop is meant for gaming and graphics heavy tasks. Of course, the new RTX 3080 takes the laptop’s performance to the next level and now you can actually really enjoy playing RTX games.

Therefore, performance wise, it is still at the top but regarding battery life, and CPU temperatures, you might find that the laptop does get heated very often. We see laptop temperatures hanging between 85 to 95 Degrees Celsius while gaming and that means, yes the laptop can get hot.

Honestly, speaking, having that high temperatures on a gaming laptop is common but not recommend. I’d be more comfortable with temperatures hanging around 75 to 85 degrees C.

Overall, the laptop is a beast and if you really need that high level of performance, it is Scar 17 G733. You can easily fix the heating issue by getting a cooling pad, or you can use the Armoury Crate software to control temperatures.

However, high temperatures doesn’t mean that your laptop will explode and shut down completely. It just means that your laptop can get quite hot.

Besides that, the design, display and everything of the new 2021 Scar 17 is great. With the new RTX 3080, there is no doubt, you have the best hardware on your desk.
